Ballet Conservatory

Younger students have a special Conservatory class they attend in addition to one or more classes from the regular dance program. As dancers become more accomplished, the classes become exclusively limited to Conservatory students.  Please note: some classes are by invitation only.  Pointe and Pre-Pointe training begin at an appropriate level when strength and alignment have been sufficiently established.  The Jr. Pre-Professional Level will continue this year and is open to Conservatory 8 students by invitation.  This level will lead to the Pre-Professional Release Program.  There is a set curriculum and fee at this level.  Please see page 7 for details.  CCDC has established a reputation over the past 18 years for creating beautifully accomplished dancers who love what they do.  Many students go on to study in leading dance programs in colleges and universities across the country, and several have received scholarships from Maryland Scholars in the Arts. 

Students register for a specific level as determined by the Director.  New students must take a placement class before enrolling. Conservatory students are eligible to audition for the CCDC Ballet Company.
 

Pre-Conservatory (ages 7-8) Open to passionate young dancers by invitation of the Director only. 
Sat 11:30 – 12:45 PM (by invitation only)

Requirements: the above class in addition to one or more Level 2 classes.

Conservatory 3 (ages 8-9)  2 or more classes/week.  In addition, students may take the tap or jazz portion of combo classes and special classes. 

Requirements: both of the above classes or one of the classes listed here in addition to one or more Level 3 classes. Fall schedule


Conservatory 4 (ages 9-10)  2 or more classes/week. 

Requirements: both of the above classes or one of the classes listed here in addition to one or more Level 4 classes for a total of two or more classes per week. Fall schedule
 

Conservatory 5 & Pre-Pointe (ages 10 – 12)  3 or more ballet classes per week.  Additional Modern class highly recommended.

Pre-Professional Division
This program consists of a set curriculum of classes designed to guide the advanced student into a professional company or a top notch college dance program.  The Jr. Pre-Professional curriculum is designed to prepare the dedicated student for the Pre-Professional Release Program.  In additional to daily ballet classes, students receive instruction in modern, contemporary ballet, conditioning, variations and pointe work.  All students participate in the CCDC Ballet Company and are eligible for Jazz Ensemble from which they gain valuable performing experience.  Class length is extended to allow for more allegro and pirouette work, and private classes are available if desired.  Admission to the Jr. and Sr. Pre-Professional Programs is by invitation.  Students interested in applying should schedule a placement class with the Director.  Additional scholarships and work/study programs are available for students with financial need.  Please apply for these directly with the Director.   

Jr. Pre-Professional Curriculum:

Required classes:  A minimum of two ballet technique classes and one pointe class or one ballet technique, one modern, and one pointe class from the extra classes listed below in addition to the following classes:
